What follows in this post is of a ....graphic....nature. Nicholas is one gross boy! So....if you're about to eat lunch, I hope you don't lose your appetite. Sorry.
A post from Mommy.
My son has introduced us to the finer side of parenting today. Let's start the story at the beginning of nap time.
Chris and I are rearranging some items and doing a bit of summer cleaning in the house this morning. Nicholas, of course, feels like he needs to help out. His helping is a bit more like getting in the way so I thanked him for his help, put him in his swing, gave him a bottle and let him drift off to sleep. Shortly after dozing off, I picked him up and placed him in his crib....like I always do. No more than 3 minutes after going into the crib, he woke up. No crying, just playing, so Chris and I left him alone. He was making cute talking noises to his mobile and playing with the buttons. he has a couple toys that hang off the sides of the crib as well, so I know he's well entertained.
After about 10 minutes of playing he started to fuss. Not really crying, just making his "I don't want to be in the crib anymore" noises. I was hoping he'd find the passy and fall back asleep. I gave him about 10 more minutes of fussy time before going into the room to retrieve him.
As I opened the door and approached the crib a foul odor hit me. I thought out loud to Nicholas, "Oh, you have a dirty diaper. No wonder......" I stopped mid sentence after witnessing the scene in front of me. Nicholas standing up in the crib, whining, and a huge brown spot sprayed across the sheets from the middle of the crib all the way to under the mobile. "UH-OH!" As I picked him up his diaper was hanging off of him. The front clasps were still buckled around him however the front of the diaper was no longer attached. He was covered in poop from the waist down to his toes. I held him out at arms length and yelled for Chris to come and help me.
Immediately I placed Nicholas into the sink while Chris started stripping the bed. After a good wash down I SECURELY placed a new diaper on him and placed him back into his swing. The sheets have been sprayed down with the hose in the driveway and are now on their second rinse cycle. Meanwhile, his entire crib and mattress have been sprayed down with Fantastic! Anti-bacterial spray.
I only hope we don't have to go through that again! I think Chris and I have learned our lesson....ALWAYS make sure he's dressed in more than just a diaper. A onesie will have to be worn at all times!
I hope you didn't lose your lunch.
